Volleyball For College Scholarships

Due to the number of difficulties students are faced when pursuing a college degree, many are looking to avail of loans and scholarships, especially college sport scholarships. However, college sport scholarships are not available to everyone. They are for talented athletes who can combine their playing skills with academic prowess. Students who are talented in volleyball, for instance, need to balance athleticism and intellect if they are to play college volleyball.

William G Morgan, a physical education director with the YMCA, created a new game which he called mintonette on February 9, 1895 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was the education director as the Holyoke, Massachusetts, YMCA, and a colleague of James Naismith, who had invented the game of basketball, at the Springfield YMCA. Naismith’s game was increasing rapidly in popularity. There was, however, a drawback: not everyone could keep up with the pace of basketball. The swift pace of the game was noted by people when the fast break has not even been developed yet. Morgan needed to come up with a game that could be played by middle-aged players. In fact, the first volleyball net, borrowed from tennis, was only 6’6″ high.

Morgan then conceived a court game which he originally called mintonette. He chose the name as his new sport was similar to badminton. Mintonette was played on a court divided by a net raised 6 feet and 6 inches from the floor. Teams propelled the ball back and forth over the net until one team missed. The first ever competitive game of volleyball was played in July 7, 1896. The first beach volleyball association appeared in California in 1965, and the professional players came togetherd under the American Volleyball Professionals (AVP) in 1983.

The Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both students and coaches involved in the applying for college athletic scholarships. There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact. D1Athletes is an online community wherein students and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need during college volleyball recruiting. D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.
